New Comics: Cognito Sanchez Sketches & More

Art, Children's Books

Hi there,

I’ve been knee deep in first chapter sketches for Cognito Sanchez. Here is the newly imagined first page. My inspiration was TV show intros where they show the setting and the main characters while the theme song plays.

Thanks for stopping by, and have a great week!

Shiny new ideas for a shiny new year

Uncategorized

Hi! I know… it’s been a while. I’ve been a bit distracted from regular posting due to a chaotic December followed by a an influx of shiny new project ideas.

Soon, I hope to share artwork from a new graphic novel project and a freelance logo project I’m working on. Right now I’m knee-deep in concepts that simply aren’t ready show yet. So instead, I’m getting back on the blog wagon with a blast from the past. This is a piece I did 6-ish years ago. I guess you could call it a surreal, abstract, mixed-media piece. I used markers, pens and pencil.

As a result of my shiny new idea syndrome, my NaNoWriMo novel will be marinating for a while – which I think is ok. I’m hoping it’ll give me a fresh perspective when I return to it. In the meantime, I’m looking forward to sharing my new projects as they come to fruition.

Happy belated 2016!  I hope your creative projects – new and old – are evolving in exciting new ways.

Sneak Peek: In-Progress Painting

Art

Here’s a sneak peek of a painting I’m working on. As you can see, I am under the watchful eye of a sinister critic ready to pounce and correct me at any moment.

I could use a name for this piece. Suggestions are welcome!

Night & Day – 18” x 24” abstract painting

Uncategorized

A week or two ago, I finished this mixed-media abstract painting. I experimented with different patterns and even used an empty liquor bottle to achieve some of the textures. The bottle had cool ridges on it, so I had to use it for something before I recycled it!

The finished piece makes me think of a sky, both earthy and celestial, so I titled the piece Night & Day to speak to the sky-like contrast throughout.

Commissioned painting: Creative Flow

Uncategorized

Creative Flow is a commissioned piece I created for a Milwaukee-based writer. The piece resides directly over her writing desk as a visual depiction of the creative process. The client was great to work with. She selected the colors, canvas size (30″ x 40″) and overall theme of gears and I took it from there. The result is something we are both proud of.

Perception vs Reality – 24″ x 24″ acrylic on canvas

Uncategorized

Back in January of this year, I finished this earth-tone, surrealism-inspired canvas. The idea behind the piece is our perception of the world around us versus other people’s perceptions and the way our environment and other people influence our view.

I primarily used acrylics, but also used fine-art markers and spray paint.
