The story behind Give Me the Sea
To explain the meaning behind this song, I need to tell you about the person behind all of the recording and instrumentation, Owen Strombeck. He is the reason you can hear the ocean throughout this song. He is the reason there are interesting guitar lines weaving across bass lines and punctuated by drums. I wrote and sang these songs and Owen did ALL of the instrumentation, production and recording. He built a world around them!
Owen is not only a talented and creative person that I happen to know, he is also my husband! We met when he started drumming with my first band Mercury Crossing. I told myself I wouldn’t date anyone in my band. But… I lied. I married him the first chance I got.

You know when you look at a body of water and you feel this sense of awe, like you’re exactly where you’re supposed to be? That’s what Give me the Sea is about. It’s about feeling gratitude for my life and my relationship with Owen so far. We really have come a long way. I can’t wait to see what happens next.
Quick side note: The lyric “Bring us the stars…” is a callback to our other music project by the same name. You can take a listen to that at BringUsTheStars.com.
